Trevlac was founded in 1973 as a service bureau that
provided computer services to schools in Ontario. As a service bureau schools
would send their printed data to our office in London, Ontario where it would
be processed and the computer-generated printouts would be returned to the
schools. The original product was a special semester or year-end report card
called a Student Achievement Form that was required by the Ontario Ministry of
Education. As the 1970's progressed, the company expanded into offering
scheduling and full mark reporting services.
Our first software installation took place in 1978 at Frontenac Secondary
School in Kingston, Ontario. That installation ran the same service bureau
software that we had developed for our own use. This provided our company with
invaluable experience in what was required when dealing with software clients.
In the early 1980's, IBM brought out its first PC and we recognized that schools
would eventually be able to produce all of the things that we offered as a
service bureau on their own in-house computers. We decided to take the previous
10 years experience and develop a software product suitable for microcomputers.
Our first software installation of The School Administrator
took place in January, 1985. As our service bureau customers converted to
in-house computers and acquired our software, we gradually changed the
company's primary focus from a service bureau to a software development
company.
Our second generation product, The School Administrator - Version 6.0,
was released in 1993 and used Microsoft's FoxPro as the development tool. With
requirements changing rapidly in education and the need for a more
district-oriented product, we released The School Administrator - Version 7.0
in the spring of 1998. This product uses Microsoft's Visual FoxPro as the
development tool and also will link to major database products such as MS SQL
and Oracle.
